ENDURANCE

Moi aussi je vous aime

I was asked to participate in a french publication called NUKE with the theme of ENDURANCE. Each participant were given 2 pages to fill with some art.

As I kept thinking about what ENDURANCE means, Serge Gainsbourg movie "Moi aussi je vous aime" was the only thing that came to mind.

I adore this movie, which is about a tom boy (Jane Birkin) working at a gas station in the middle of nowhere and who falls in love with a homosexual garbage collector. He falls in love at first sight with her, looking at her back, thinking she is a boy. When they finally get intimate, the only way he finds to make love to her is through anal sex, uncapable to fuck with a woman.

When I thought about ENDURANCE, I was thiking first about the most obvious in the film. Her enduring savage anal sex... Sex and aggression are very strong throughout the movie.

The whole movie is a movie about ENDURANCE. His gay boyfriend is painfully enduring him falling for this girl. He also endures the gay violence directed at him by the the local macho types who beat him up one night. Jane also endures a shitty abusive job she´d love to scape from, or the few other women we see, sort of prostutites, who have the most ENDURING type of job.

Everybody is enduring some sort of sordid life in this highway system landscape, a no man´s land, cristalised in the job of the gay couple garbage collectors.

There is nowhere to go and nothing to redeem yourself in Gainsbourg´s movie... His opera prima, it´s a real work of art about ENDURANCE in my opinion.

My submission with the anal sex scene in the garbage truck was not accepted for publication (when I saw one of the entries in the magazine: a baby girl crying in the shower cause she had soap on her eyes it kind of oriented me into why I was not included at the end). Adam, a friend, told me I should be proud of not having been accepted. It bothered someone!

I think I just was missunderstood. But I really like my submission and I have endured so much in the past years that I put it here :)))

Idée Fixe  is a Transdisciplinary Studio of Art and Architecture, run by Cristina Guadalupe Galván.

If in a website you normally find finished objects and products to share, what we are sharing here are more ideas – tested, developed and lived -- and their processes, that in many instances ended up happily physical. The creative process is about experimentation and the life that goes with it. The life and the people.

While building this site I came across a quote that explained it to me much better, by architects Josep Ferrando & Marta Poch, for their Quaderns d´Arquitectura, issue 273, THE THINKING TRADE:

In a world dominated by images of the finished object and the immediacy of access to multimedia content, this issue of Quaderns sets out to reflect on the role of the architect –by means of their working processes, of the working methods (…) leaving the image of the built project on the background.

For artist Sol LeWitt, the process was also the work:

The idea becomes a machine that makes the art. (...) It is the process of conception and realization with which the artist is concerned.

Architect Josep Maria Sostres said something similar:

The project, obviously as a mental conception, as a will to form, has a sovereignty, it has an internal power that must be imposed.

So this archive-website of Idee-Fixe, records more these ideas, processes and in many instances the collaborations that made them possible.

It´s about THE LIFE OF IDEAS.
