My own private ARCO
A “dérive poétique” through the ARCO fair in 2006 and 2008
I was walking around the ARCO fair with my camera in 2006, in this enormous event hall with hundreds of people as if I was walking through the fields, trying to capture some of the poetry that affected my sensibility. What’s the difference between photographing a tree, a public monument or a picture? I just don’t see it. They are all images from the exterior. I could have been in the forest collecting leafs, the shades of green of a dead nature, but I was in this other nature capturing others sensibilities that were my own; recognizing myself through others and giving this back to the public. Like a medieval troubadour telling the stories of others, but in with a new interpretation.
I built up this collection, this black box of memories of an art fair, through a personal “derive poétique”. Like Marcel Duchamp´s boxes, this is a container of both time and soul. New pictures have been created, as Sherrie Levine with Walker Evans, continuing to add more layers to an infinite work of art. In this new negative I added all the reflections of the nature where the images were, the reflections of the people, corridors, other pictures or paintings around.
A year later I am presenting to the same fair this virtual gallery near to the other hundreds of actual galleries that may have shown one of the pieces I’ve collected. Is this wrong of me? Would they be angry? I am not thief, just another collector of the fair though I don’t trade; another artist of the fair, though nobody selected my work.
And I leave my work on the net, free to anyone that wants to see it and maybe download it for his own.
Enjoy the walk…
